Few synthesizers have left a mark on trance music like the legendary Roland JP-8000 and JP-8080. Their iconic Super Saw oscillator helped define the massive leads and euphoric harmonies of an era — sounds that still inspire producers today.
Featuring 64 signature trance presets, this collection captures that unmistakable sonic character with expressive leads, emotional pads, powerful basses, and intricate plucks. Carefully designed for authentic 90s–2000s vibes, these sounds bring legendary inspiration to your modern productions.
Create your next classic with the unmistakable sound of Roland JP synthesis.
Released in 1996, the Roland JP-8000 arrived at a pivotal moment in electronic music. Its most iconic feature was the Super Saw oscillator, which combined seven detuned sawtooth waves to create a huge, powerful sound that would become synonymous with late-90s and early-2000s trance.
Before this technology, achieving such a thick, layered sound often meant stacking multiple oscillators or synthesizers. The JP-8000 put that distinctive sonic character directly at a producer’s fingertips, making soaring leads, emotional breakdowns, and euphoric climaxes easier to create.
Use these presets with your compatible Roland JP-8000 or JP-8080 hardware synthesizer. The sound bank is also designed for use with The Usual Suspects JE-8086 software emulation, allowing compatible users to work with JP-style sounds directly inside their DAW without owning the original hardware.
Released in August 1997, The Age of Love captured Scooter at the height of the late-90s rave explosion. Taken from their fourth studio album, Age of Love, the track combined driving hard-dance energy, bold electronic melodies, and the unmistakable attitude that made Scooter one of Europe’s defining dance acts.
One of its most interesting details is its connection to cinema: the track incorporates a sample of the main theme from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, transforming a recognizable cinematic motif into a powerful dance-floor anthem.
Produced by Rick J. Jordan, the record showcases the era’s signature approach to electronic music: memorable melodic phrases, relentless momentum, and synth sounds designed to cut through even the loudest club system.
The single was released during a particularly creative period for Scooter, alongside tracks such as Fire and No Fate. Its sound reflects a moment when trance, hard dance, and rave culture were constantly influencing one another.
For producers, The Age of Love is a reminder that classic dance music is about more than sound design alone. It’s the combination of a recognizable hook, powerful synth timbres, and carefully controlled energy that makes a track unforgettable.
First released in December 1996, Offshore helped establish Chicane as one of the defining names in melodic, atmospheric trance. Created by British producer Nick Bracegirdle with Christopher Leo Elstob, the track offered a different kind of dance-floor experience: spacious synth layers, sweeping chords, and a reflective melody that felt equally at home in a club or beside the sea.
Rather than relying solely on relentless energy, Offshore built its emotional impact through atmosphere and gradual progression. Its distinctive melodic hook draws on the musical idea behind Don Henley’s The Boys of Summer, giving the track an especially memorable sense of familiarity.
The record reached No. 14 on the UK Singles Chart and later inspired further versions, including Offshore ’97. Nearly three decades later, it remains a defining example of the melodic, Balearic side of classic trance.
For producers, its lasting lesson is simple: a memorable melody, carefully layered synthesizers, and a sense of space can be just as powerful as the biggest lead sound.
Few records capture the sound of late-90s dance music as instantly as Better Off Alone. Originally released in the Netherlands in 1998, the track became an international phenomenon, blending a hypnotic synth melody with driving dance rhythms and an instantly recognizable vocal hook.
One fascinating detail is that the track began as an instrumental released by DJ Jurgen in 1997. It was subsequently developed into the vocal version associated with Alice Deejay, featuring Judith Pronk as the project’s vocalist and visual frontwoman.
The result crossed the boundaries between trance, Eurodance, and mainstream pop. Its deceptively simple melody proved that a handful of carefully chosen notes could become more memorable than an elaborate arrangement.
The track helped make Alice Deejay one of the defining dance acts of the era and remains a staple of retro dance sets, classic trance playlists, and nostalgic festival moments.
For sound designers, Better Off Alone is a masterclass in melodic economy: a distinctive synth hook, the right rhythmic foundation, and an arrangement that gives every element room to shine.
